Happy Truth Thursday all,
What is a wandering mind and how do I avoid my mind wandering ?
To put it simply and concisely, a wandering mind is a mind that is not focused on the present moment. It is a mind that is apart from the physical presence of its body and thus roams around aimlessly and uselessly through time and space.
The mind, because it is designed to be in communication with the soul, also has the ability, with some constraints, to move through time- thinking about the past and the desired future-and thinking about different places apart from the physical location of the body.
The mind is supposed to be an assistant to the soul in tandem with the body. A wandering mind is like an office worker that comes to the office, but produces no value, choosing to waste time in vain and useless pursuits.
A mind that is not wandering, on the other hand, exists completely in the present moment and is focused on a singular objective. This part is also important, for you have minds that are in the present moment, but distracted by multiple things. These too are wandering minds.
When God created the world, He made each thing, saw that it was good, then moved on to the next thing. This is how you must train your mind- to decide on doing or thinking about one thing, finish the thought, see that it is good and then move on to the next thing.
There is no need to fight or wrestle with the mind. Instead, when you notice it wandering, gently call it back to the task at hand. Help yourself by reducing your chances of distraction- guard your time and don’t let people or things have free reign over it.
